Four former employees of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, now founders of cybersecurity startup Cathedral, used AI agents to access a limited set of Anthropic’s internal sales, human-resources and IT systems within 12 hours, Anthropic confirmed. Cathedral’s founders—Gavin Kliger, Luke Farritor, Marko Elez and Jack Stein—acted through Anthropic’s bug bounty program, which rewards outside researchers for reporting vulnerabilities, so the activity was not a crime. Anthropic said customer chats, source code and model weights were untouched, and that it flagged some activity and cut off access the same day. DOGE, which Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy ran for President Donald Trump, closed on July 4, 2026; the disclosure came as Anthropic filed for a Nasdaq IPO.
