At a Republican rally in Perry, Georgia, on Saturday, Donald Trump presented Audi’s plan for a roughly $4 billion factory near Macon that would make up to 200,000 SUVs a year and support about 4,500 jobs. The announcement came days before the November 3 midterm election, with Georgia holding competitive races for governor and U.S. Senate. Audi, a German luxury automaker and part of Volkswagen, expects construction to begin in 2027 and first vehicles in the early 2030s, handling the Q7, Q8 and Q9; CEO Gernot Doellner attended. Audi currently imports every U.S.-sold vehicle from Europe or Mexico, and last year Trump’s tariffs cost the company €1.2 billion, about $1.4 billion.
