Synthetix claws back SNX as Binance hacker locks $3.5M in Newton contract by mistake

Synthetix said on Oct. 30, 2026, that its protocolDAO recovered about $8.4 million in SNX stolen in the Binance hack and moved the tokens into the DAO’s multisignature Safe; it notified Binance and will return them on request. Separately, the Newton Foundation said the attacker sent about 8 million NEWT, worth roughly $3.5 million, to the token’s own contract address, where no function can release them. Binance confirmed about $6.3 billion was stolen in the largest crypto exploit, and close to $3 billion has since been frozen or locked, including about $1.77 billion in USDT by Tether and $825 million in USDC by Circle.
