Senator Richard Blumenthal is seeking records about an estimated $6.3 million that Tether allegedly paid to Nxum, a consulting firm in which former White House crypto policy chief Bo Hines holds a one-third stake. The demand follows a Wall Street Journal report published October 14, 2026, describing a May 2025 arrangement brokered through Peter Vincer’s marketing firm Notorious at $415,000 a month for at least two years. Three installments totaling $7.47 million were routed through Bitfinex, with $6.3 million net reaching a Nxum-linked wallet. Hines served on the President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets until August 9, 2025; no criminal charge or Justice Department or Office of Government Ethics referral has been made.
