Resetting a forgotten ChatGPT PIN permanently deletes every locked chat

OpenAI introduced locked chats for ChatGPT today, allowing users to protect private conversations with a four-digit PIN. Resetting a forgotten PIN permanently erases all locked chats, files, and remembered information tied to that PIN, and OpenAI Support or workspace administrators cannot restore the deleted content. Forgetting the PIN alone does not delete anything; the loss occurs when the PIN is reset. Locked chats appear under Projects and can be opened with the PIN or, on supported phones, Face ID, Touch ID, or device unlock. OpenAI also said locking a chat does not provide end-to-end encryption.
