Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael said Washington will announce within two weeks which existing regulations apply to U.S. AI laboratories. Michael, second-in-command of the government’s Super Intelligence Task Force, aims to build public trust and clarify current rules instead of creating a new AI statute or licensing system, but he did not identify the laws or how they would be enforced. President Trump’s June 2 executive order required agencies to draft classified evaluations of frontier AI models and proposed a voluntary review of up to 30 days before release to trusted partners, ruling out mandatory pre-clearance. Starting August 2, 2025, the EU AI Act imposes binding obligations on general-purpose AI providers, including technical documentation, training-data summaries and copyright rules.
