OpenAI plans to test merging ChatGPT Chat and its Work business-agent features into one interface, beginning with a small group of users. Chat covers questions and idea generation, while Work takes on larger projects such as research, spreadsheets, reports, presentations and published Sites, with file uploads and plugins. Codex remains standalone; Anthropic announced on September 16 that Cowork and chat would merge into one Claude; rollout began with Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers, followed by Enterprise on October 23, with Team and Free plans pending. Work and Codex already share an allowance, credits can be bought after it runs out, and in December Plus, Pro and Business subscribers will share a token-based allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, excluding instant chat.
