In a November 4, 2026 announcement, NEAR Protocol's House of Stake approved proposal HSP-029, which would lower the network's maximum annual token issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months. The plan could prevent 11.8 million NEAR from entering circulation in the first two years and 66.1 million over six years, cutting daily issuance from about 89,500 to 57,300 tokens at full implementation. The existing split of new tokens would remain, with 90% for staking participants and 10% for the protocol treasury, while gross staking yields could decline from roughly 5.27% to 3.37% if staking participation is unchanged.
