Elon Musk said on Oct. 22, 2026 that Tesla is increasing Megapack production as its supply for 2027 nears sellout. Megapack systems let utilities store excess electricity and supply the grid during high demand or low renewable output, with demand rising from utilities and AI data centers. Tesla’s third-quarter 2026 energy revenue fell 16% to $2.881 billion even as storage deployments rose 10% to 13.7 GWh, after record energy-storage orders and backlog. Tesla lists annual production capacity of 50 GWh in Texas, 40 GWh in California and 20 GWh in Shanghai, and has begun delivering Megapacks using lithium iron phosphate cells from Nevada.
