Is the AI Agent Economy Really Booming? 6.4M Payments Tell a Different Story

A BeInCrypto Intelligence report, produced with AWS, Cloudflare, Chainalysis and Zoomex, found that 6.4 million AI-agent payments tracked over 35 days totaled $119,947, and 90.8% of sampled x402 payments were under one cent. The report, State of AI Agent Payments 2026, examined actual payments and AI financial tools and said much activity involved API access, computing resources and automated data requests. On its 100-point readiness assessment, micropayments scored 60.7 and institutional financial workflows 12.0; humans still controlled most financial decisions. Fourteen of 19 reviewed AI tools operated within preset spending or trading limits, AI-labeled interfaces were less than 0.55% of Hyperliquid’s trading volume, and Zoomex order-preparation workflows required human confirmation.
