ICA and Coop stores in Sweden lose frozen stock as freezers fail overnight

Overnight into Monday, refrigeration and freezer equipment stopped working at 12 or more ICA and Coop grocery stores in Sweden, and Ica Kvantum Sjöbo attributed its outage to an intrusion that raised temperatures to 50 degrees Celsius. ICA said some stores linked to the internet outside its central network were affected and that it provided support; Coop press officer Carlos Cancino said six Coop stores in central Sweden were hit. Five ICA stores in southern Sweden and Ica Baronen in Stockholm were affected, and Ica Nära Sankt Olof lost all freezer stock. French police reported that hackers seized control of refrigeration at hundreds of French supermarkets in October, weeks before the Swedish incidents; no connection has been established.
