Google plans to spend $17 billion on its first Wyoming data center, a Laramie County project announced Thursday. It said it will pay for all campus electricity and needed grid upgrades, partnering with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital. The site will use a 702-megawatt fuel cell system supplied through AEP and built by Bloom Energy, with carbon emissions captured and buried at Tallgrass’s Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub; AEP has said it will invest about $4 billion under a 20-year power deal. The announcement came two days after voters backed data center restrictions in 40 of 41 local U.S. ballot measures, and the facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2028.
