The Financial Action Task Force agreed at its October 28–30 plenary in Paris to launch a targeted review of jurisdictions with large virtual-asset sectors that have anti-money-laundering rules but weak enforcement. The review, the first plenary under President Giles Thomson, will publish initial results by June 2027 and more in October. It follows a July 16, 2026 report finding 83% of surveyed jurisdictions had adopted Travel Rule legislation, which requires crypto firms to report sender and recipient details, but 55 of the 91 that adopted it had taken no enforcement action. Jurisdictions with materially important virtual-asset providers account for about 97% of the global market, the FATF said.
