Ethereum developers indefinitely delayed on Thursday the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet after security experts identified gas-accounting changes that could affect deployed smart contracts during failed transactions. The Ethereum Foundation said the decision was made during the ACDE 248 call to evaluate EIP-8037’s interaction with mainnet contracts; Hoodi’s planned October 26 activation at epoch 132,352 was removed, with no replacement scheduled. The delay also affects Gloas consensus-layer activation and a planned Hoodi gas-limit increase to 200 million, though existing chain history is unaffected. ChainSecurity flagged EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 on October 13 as threats to defenses against insufficient gas griefing, and on Friday reported 13 exposed real-world contracts while urging audits, casting doubt on a December mainnet launch.
