Kairos Research’s October 29 post outlined Ethena’s plan to use Ethereum-based Tether Gold (XAUT) as collateral for institutional loans of stable assets, a framework whose key question is whether the gold tokens could be sold over a weekend. Neither test outcomes nor confirmation that the framework is operating has appeared. Ethena’s lending documentation describes overcollateralized loans held in qualified custody or tri-party arrangements. XAUT represents one troy ounce of gold, but only verified customers may redeem it; processing can take multiple business days and physical metal starts at about 400 tokens. Tether has no duty to repurchase tokens, and Ethena excludes its own tokens as collateral.
