Elon Musk said on Friday in an X post that Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around mid-2027 and use the space for more Cybercab output. The Cybercab is a two-seat robotaxi that Tesla began charging for rides in Austin on Sept. 3; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an audit hours later and on Sept. 10 issued a formal order requiring sworn responses, with incomplete replies risking penalties up to $139 million. Tesla certified the Cybercab as meeting federal safety standards without an exemption, although it lacks permanently attached steering wheel, pedals and mirrors. Tesla shares fell 11% on Thursday before the post and were down about 24% this year.
