Cypherium has presented COLOSSUS-X, a proof-of-work mining design for AI data center hardware, and announced plans for a blockchain-based Compute Index. COLOSSUS-X uses a 32 GiB memory-based dataset that grows about 10% annually, allowing chips to run AI workloads and Bitcoin mining simultaneously, unlike specialized ASIC chips. The proposed index would combine network rental rates, mining profitability, and external AI compute data as a reference price for computing contracts used to hedge GPU costs. CME Group is launching two compute futures on October 5, 2026, tracking Silicon Data indexes for Nvidia H100 and B200 chips, while Keel, formerly Bitfarms, expects zero mining revenue in Q3 2026 after taking its last sites offline on June 29.
