This week, users on X revisited the case of an early Bitcoin holder known as Stone Man, who reportedly lost access to coins now worth about $741 million. In an August 10, 2010, BitcoinTalk post, Stone Man said he had gathered 9,000 BTC through an exchange and moved them to a Bitcoin client on a Debian Linux live CD; after backing up the wallet to a flash drive, he tried to send himself one Bitcoin, closed the program before confirmations, shut down, and reloaded an older backup. His balance then showed 1 BTC and a transaction sending the rest to an unfamiliar address. The original post cited 8,900 BTC, but blockchain records show the associated address holds 8,999.00689948 BTC.
