Could Binance Have a Future in Europe After Lagarde's ECB Exit?

Christine Lagarde told the ECB Governing Council she will step down as president on February 7, 2027, almost nine months before her term ends on October 31, 2027, and the ECB confirmed the move on Thursday. EU leaders will choose her successor. Lagarde is the official reported to have asked Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to block Binance’s bid for an EU-wide license covering about 450 million people; without that license, Binance stopped accepting new European customers in July, while Coinbase continued serving the region under a Luxembourg license. Greece’s securities regulator said it judged the application independently.
