J. Benjamin Greenberg, a Circle Internet Group shareholder, filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday against President Donald Trump and World Liberty Financial, alleging two United Arab Emirates-linked transactions violated the Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause. The suit cites the $500 million sale of a 49% stake in World Liberty to an investment vehicle backed by a member of the UAE ruling family and Abu Dhabi-based MGX’s use of World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin to fund a $2 billion Binance investment. The clause bars presidents from accepting foreign-government payments without congressional approval. Greenberg alleges unfair competition harmed Circle shareholders and seeks an injunction, profits and damages.
