Chinese regulators have rejected SoftBank Group’s proposed $5.4 billion acquisition of ABB’s robotics division, ABB said. The deal, signed in October 2025 and valuing the unit at $5.375 billion, was intended to let ABB concentrate on electrification and automation while giving SoftBank a foothold in industrial robotics and physical AI. China’s National Development and Reform Commission told SoftBank the purchase would not be approved, and ABB said both companies remain in talks and continue efforts to advance the deal. SoftBank is examining why China blocked it and whether it can reapply; neither company has officially canceled the transaction.
