Through Oct. 25, Bitcoin had fallen 7.3% and gold 7.5% in 2026, ranking last among the 21 asset classes tracked since 2011 by Creative Planning strategist Charlie Bilello, who said the two had never before shared last place in a calendar year. A commodities basket rose 52.5%, large U.S. stocks gained 12.3%, and short-term U.S. Treasury bills returned 2.9%. Gold surged 63.7% in 2025 and topped $5,400 an ounce early this year before spot prices fell to $3,995.81 on Friday; they recovered 0.3% to $4,008.70 on Monday. Bitcoin traded at $80,472, about 35% below its record above $126,000 last October; if losses hold, 2026 would be its second straight negative year after a 6.3% decline in 2025.
