Binance reported that attackers stole $6.3 billion from its wallets on October 29 after months of preparation using tampered software, a fake job interview and an internal AI tool, according to a November 3 report. The exchange said a June malware infection was contained, but a September job-interview ruse and an October 20 intrusion helped attackers reach wallet developers; on October 29, stolen credentials and a malicious script reached wallet-signing operations. Five wallets moved 233.46 million XRP within four minutes, and the last illicit transaction came almost four hours after the initial XRP theft. Binance says $2.85 billion has been frozen or intercepted, while about $3.18 billion remains in wallets linked to the theft, mostly in bitcoin and Ether.
