Anthropic added two sentences to Claude Code’s prompt for its Opus 5.5 model to stop recreation of a specific existing video game, a change X user Chasm spotted on October 27 and technical staff member Addy Osmani confirmed on October 30. Osmani cited a usage policy against intellectual property infringement. Original games, genre titles, and projects using a user’s own assets remain allowed, but recreating an existing game is barred even under a new title. Developers say the filter also blocks crash-dump analysis, anti-cheat work, and debugging their own projects, and Anthropic has not explained how it determines ownership. The change comes before Anthropic’s Nasdaq debut; the company already paid $1.5 billion to settle claims over pirated training books.
