a16z Drops Crypto From Its Name, Widens Bets to AI and Frontier Tech

Andreessen Horowitz is renaming its cryptocurrency fund a16z Frontier and broadening the areas it will cover to include artificial intelligence, autonomous machines and biology. The firm said the boundary between crypto and ordinary technology has become less distinct. As a result, the fund’s mandate will extend beyond cryptocurrency into those additional technology sectors. The change alters both the fund’s name and the range of investments it is intended to pursue.
