BeInCrypto verified a viral X list claiming stock markets in 42 countries were in bear territory and found 27 met the definition, a fall of at least 20% from a peak; the U.S. was not among them. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 6% on Friday to 57,434.77, 21.1% below its June 22 record, while South Korea’s KOSPI was 46.1% off its June peak after dropping below 5,000 and triggering a 20-minute trading halt. Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Taiwan and Venezuela were the other markets whose 2026 peaks put them in the group. In the U.S., the Nasdaq closed at 24,315, about 12% below its October 6 record, a correction rather than a bear market.
