In 2026, physicist Giovanni Santostasi and Stephen Perrenod published a peer-reviewed study supporting a link between network adoption and Bitcoin’s price; Santostasi’s model projects Bitcoin at approximately $1 million in 2033. The Power Law describes a quantity changing in proportion to another raised to a fixed power; Santostasi’s Bitcoin model says the long-term trend price rises roughly 50 times whenever Bitcoin’s age doubles. The study examined 5,696 daily Bitcoin prices from July 2010 to February 2026 and found the model explained about 96% of variation in historical logarithmic price, not 96% forecast accuracy. Independent researchers from Portuguese universities found the simple Power Law outperformed tested alternatives for 12–24 month forecasts but questioned whether the relationship is stable and fundamental.
